Respite, Recharge and long Weekends

I am away this long Memorial Day weekend—a beautiful location and appreciatively on the water! I find myself feeling reflective, quiet, and wondering what exactly is ahead of us. The news around the world feels oppressive even frightening and the terrifying violence that is occurring within our nation these past few weeks has caused a sense of dread and anger in many of us.

As I paddled into the center of lake this morning, I heard a loon in the distance and recalled the eagle that flew by yesterday morning. Over my opposite shoulder I count approximately 21 windmills in my view. Sitting in the center of the lake, practicing chair yoga in my kayak—I began to feel restored. Rounding my spine, tucking my chin conversely inhaling opening my heart to the blue skies and spreading my arms wide, further recharging my body and spirit. Once again I’m called back to the windmills, loons, the eagle and the blessed water. How we recharge and ground ourselves during these unsettling times is the multi-million dollar question.

Spoiler Alert’ I don’t have the answer!
We hear and read about continuous reports of poor sleep and elevated anxious minds. For many physical activity has lessened considerably since the beginning of the pandemic as individuals seek ways to comfort with food, alcohol and other substances. The ground hasn’t stopped moving beneath us and I am not sure it will anytime soon. More and more individuals are seeking mental health services, thank goodness. More and more people are looking for alternative ways to heal themselves.

While most us of can’t spend three day weekends on the water regularly—we can recharge and find respite in our day to day. I am offering two free classes this month in honor of RECHARGE and RESPITE. Please check out Chair Yoga, Thursday, June 9th, register to receive an invitation and recording if you can’t attend live. Another opportunity Pranayama/Breath class Wednesday, June 22nd.
